In my country (The Netherlands) we have something called "De voedselbank" transalted its called something like "The foodbank". These are organisations that collect food that isn't sellable but still eatable, it also accepts donations from people. Every two weeks or so represantatives of this organisation will stand in the grocery store and ask the customers of the grocery store for a donation, this can be anything you can choose. Packet of biscuits, can of soup, or a pound of meat. Every week these organisations create some sort of support package. for people that don't have that much cash and hand it out for free.
Every christmas, sinterklaas (some kind of dutch Santa Clause) and easter these these "Voedselbanken" (foodbanks) try and do something special for the people and need, and they will also also for donations in the form of toys, they don't really care if it is second hand or not. As long as it is clean it is okay.
Maybe supporting the Voedselbank is a viable idea?
(it is dutch but Google Translate does wonders)
